Charges laid in connection to Coleman home invasion

COLEMAN, AB – A third man has been arrested, and charges have been laid in relation to a home invasion in Coleman.

On September 16, 2023, at around 5:15 pm, Crowsnest Pass RCMP members were dispatched to a complaint of an assault involving weapons at a residence in west Coleman.

Police reported that five men armed with weapons forced entry into the home and assaulted one male and one female resident. During the incident, the suspects allegedly targeted a second male resident who had returned home.

Two men had previously been arrested in the investigation. Garett Adam Ouellette, 41, was arrested in Pincher Creek on September 21, and faces the following charges:

  • Two counts of aggravated assault
  • Break, enter and commit
  • Robbery
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Carry a concealed weapon

On Sunday, September 24, Vulcan RCMP arrested Tyler Trodden, 39, of Champion. A search warrant was executed on Trodden’s residence, and police said they seized multiple firearms, bladed weapons, a taser, and methamphetamine.

Trodden has been charged with:

  • Two counts of aggravated assault
  • Break, enter and commit
  • Robbery
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Uttering threats
  • Carry a concealed weapon
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order
  • Assault

Trodden was held for a Judicial Interim Release Hearing following his arrest, and an additional 50 charges were laid against him stemming from the search warrant. He was remanded until his court date on September 28, 2023, in Pincher Creek.

The next day, Aaron Thompson, 40, of Pincher Creek was arrested and is facing the following charges:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Break, enter and commit
  • Robbery
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Uttering threats
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Assault with a weapon

Thompson was held for a Judicial Interim Release Hearing and released for Alberta Court of Justice in Pincher Creek on November 2, 2023.

Crowsnest Pass and Pincher Creek RCMP conducted two additional search warrants in Pincher Creek in relation to this investigation, wherein a firearm, prohibited weapons, knives and ammunition were seized.

Additional charges will be laid pending further investigation. Police continue to look for Robert Russell Dwyer and a fifth, unidentified person.
