LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) is investigating a break-in at a northside home and subsequent assault of an elderly resident.

The LPS said on November 13, 2023, just before midnight, officers responded to a report of a break and enter at a home along the 2000 block of 20 Street North.

According to police, an 82-year-old woman woke up when she heard someone inside the home. She was reportedly confronted by an unknown man in her bedroom. The LPS said the woman tried to call police right away, but the suspect knocked the phone out of her hand. The woman kicked the man several times before he fled with a box of ashes she had on her nightstand. Police said no other property was taken and the woman was not physically injured.
