LETHBRIDGE, AB – Tim Hortons Foundation Camps has partnered with Green Shirt Day for the inaugural Holiday Smile Cookie Week.

For the first time in the Smile Cookie campaign’s 25 year history, it is doing a holiday campaign.

All of the 14 Tim Hortons branches in Lethbridge have come together to name Green Shirt Day as the charity of choice to benefit from proceeds of cookie sales.

The Green Shirt Day foundation was created by Bernadine and Toby Boulet to honour the memory of their son Logan, who passed away in the tragic Humboldt Broncos bus crash in 2018. Logan was an organ donor, and after his passing, his organ donation saved six lives. Since then, his family has been raising awareness about the importance of organ donation.

Toby Boulet said, “Each cookie is worth $1.50, and 100 per cent of the sale of that cookie goes to charity. The Tim Hortons company, they eat all the costs, so there is no cost to anybody. It’s not like a percentage of the profits kind of thing. So of that $1.50, $0.75 goes to Tim Hortons Foundation Camps and then $0.75 of each cookie goes to Green Shirt Day.”

The promotion began on the November 13, 2023 and runs until the November 19.

Lethbridge residents can help the campaign by wearing a green shirt, purchasing a Holiday Smile Cookie, and by using the social media hashtags #HolidaySmileCookie, #LoganBouletEffect and #GreenShirtDay.

Boulet said, “We understand and appreciate that it’s a difficult time for so many families. Christmas is coming, and were so thankful and humbled by the support that people in Lethbridge, and the communities surrounding Lethbridge, and all over, that support our family and our initiatives that we do.”

He continued, “We don’t ask for anything, we try not to ask, we just want to give back and spread kindness as much as we can. We want to remind people that [they] can register to be an organ donor, maybe you should think about that and have that conversation and make that step, become an organ donor.”

According to polls conducted by Canadian Blood Services, more than 90 per cent of Canadians support organ and tissue donation, but only 32 per cent are registered donors.
