Milk River Emergency Department set for closures

Jan 2, 2024 | 5:11 PM

MILK RIVER, AB – The Emergency Department (ED) at the Milk River Health Centre is set to temporarily close overnight.

The ED will be closed temporarily starting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday January 2, 2024.

It will reopen at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 to provide 24-hour service. Alberta Health Services (AHS) said the temporary closure is due to a lack of physician coverage.

The ED will again temporarily close overnight on Thursday, January 4 beginning at 5 p.m., re-opening at 8 a.m. on Friday, January 5 to provide 24-hour service.

During the closure, nursing staff will stay on site to provide care for long-term care residents.

Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency. EMS calls will be re-routed to the Raymond Health Centre, which is about 60 kilometres away, or the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, roughly 87 kilometres away.

Patients seeking care can access emergency services at both the Raymond and Lethbridge facilities.
