He added that he looks forward to adapting to the Hurricanes’ style of play, “They play a hard, physical game and they score goals, and I want to bring all of those attributes in my game to the team.”

Tschigerl is in the midst of a very productive season. In 36 games played with the Hitmen, Tschigerl has 19 goals and 24 assists for 43 points. He had spent his entire junior career with the Hitmen, playing his first game with the team in the 2018-19 season.

His success with the Hitmen led to Tschigerl being selected by the Anaheim Ducks with the 130th overall pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.

The trade was the first of three made by the Hurricanes on January 8. The second saw forward Blake Swetlikoff sent to the Kelowna Rockets for Dylan Sydor, and the third had Tyson Zimmer heading to Vancouver for two players and two draft picks.

The Hurricanes host the Spokane Chiefs at the ENMAX Centre tonight, which marks the first time that Peters faces off against the team he won the Memorial Cup with back in 2008.

Peters said it is a weird feeling, but he is focused on helping his new squad win. He explained, “Its a little bit weird to be honest with you, it’ll feel different once the game gets going too, but I think two to three shifts in we’ll settle in and it’ll be a regular hockey game.”

In addition to Tschigerl, the Hurricanes are hoping to have fellow newcomer Dylan Sydor in the lineup, along with Leo Braillard, who is returning to Canada after representing Switzerland at the World Junior Championships.

The game begins at 7:00 p.m.
