E-scooter season comes to a close in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The famous orange e-scooters and e-bikes around Lethbridge have been put away for the winter. Neuron Mobility concluded the riding season in the city on January 8, 2024.

Since the sleek modes of transport were introduced in April 2022, Neuron said thousands of riders have travelled more than 740,000 kilometres throughout Lethbridge. The company noted that the average trip for a user was 2.6 kilometres and took 14 minutes.

Neuron added that 52 per cent of riders’ trips are replacing their car journeys, which has helped to improve air quality and congestion on local roadways. Neuron said these trips equate to eliminating 60 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

General manager, Canada and Neuron Mobility Ankush Karwal said, “We are delighted by the continued strong uptake of rental e-scooters and e-bikes in Lethbridge. They have become an important part of the local transport network and are embraced by a wide range of users.”

Karwal added, “Many riders are also using them to replace short car journeys and two thirds of all e-scooter trips involve a purchase which is helping to boost the local economy.”

In June 2023, Neuron expanded the riding area to cover a larger boundary of Lethbridge’s trail system at Indian Battle Park.

Lethbridge mayor Blaine Hyggen stated, “Our Council continues to encourage creative ways to boost the local economy and for our residents to embrace multi-modal transportation options. We believe Neuron’s e-scooter and e-bike service contribute greatly to these goals.”

Meanwhile, Erin Crane, CEO of Tourism Lethbridge said, “We love seeing the Neuron e-scooters travelling around Lethbridge. To us, this means that both residents and visitors are exploring the city which results in increased spending at local businesses.”

Neuron currently operates in 17 municipalities in Canada.
