Extreme cold leads to closure of Palliser Division schools on Friday

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The extreme cold conditions have resulted in the Palliser School Division closing its schools going into the weekend.

The division confirmed that all of its schools serving students in southern Alberta will be closed on Friday, January 12, 2024.

The Palliser School Division has 15 community schools, 17 Hutterian colony schools, 11 faith-based alternative schools, five outreach programs, an online school and four Low German Mennonite alternative programs.

Environment Canada issued an extreme cold warning for all of Alberta on Thursday. The agency forecasts the temperature to significantly drop this weekend, with wind chills listed as low as minus 50 degrees Celsius on Saturday morning.
