Apr 23, 2024 | 3:09 AM

EDMONTON — The Edmonton Oilers have won a Game 1 for the first time in seven years.

Edmonton beat the visiting Los Angeles Kings 7-4 on Monday night to open their first-round, best-of-seven NHL playoff series.

Oilers’ forward Zach Hyman scored a hat trick, while captain Connor McDavid had five assists.

The Oilers had been 0-7 in Game 1s dating back to 2017, when they beat Anaheim to open their second-round series.

This is the third year in a row Edmonton has faced Los Angeles in the opening round of the NHL playoffs, with the Oilers winning the first two series despite losing Game 1 both times.

Game 2 goes Wednesday at Rogers Place, with the series shifting to Los Angeles later in the week for Games 3 and 4.
