FortisAlberta investigating several power outages in southern Alberta

UPDATE 4:43 p.m. – FortisAlberta has confirmed that power has been restored to those impacted in Lethbridge County, Coalhurst, Picture Butte and Shaughnessy.

Power has been restored for some customers in Taber, however an outage remains in certain areas. The estimated time to restore all power is 10 p.m.

ORIGINAL STORY – 4:23 P.M.

LETHBRIDGE COUNTY, AB – Several communities in southern Alberta have lost power.

FortisAlberta is reporting outages in the following areas:

  • County of Warner – power is anticipated to be restored by 4:30 p.m.
  • County of 40 Mile – power is expected to be restored by 4:30 p.m.
  • Lethbridge County – power is estimated to be restored by 6 p.m.
  • Town of Coalhurst, Picture Butte and Shaughnessy – power is anticipated to be restored by 6 p.m.
  • Town of Taber – power is expected to be restored by 7 p.m.

Earlier, crews responded to an outage impacting the Town of Raymond, Stirling and surrounding communities. By 3:15 p.m., power was restored.

Parts of the province have been hit with heavy rain and strong wind gusts throughout the day Tuesday. Environment Canada still has a rainfall warning in effect for many areas in southern Alberta, with some communities also under a snowfall warning.
