Tourette syndrome awareness walk in Lethbridge this weekend

LETHBRIDGE, AB – An event aimed at raising awareness on Tourette syndrome returns to the city for a sixth year this weekend.

The Trek for Tourette Lethbridge will take place at Legacy Park on Sunday, May 26, 2024.

The fundraising event will allow participants to walk three or five kilometres in support of Tourette Canada’s efforts to provide programs, services and resources to people living with the condition, their families and the communities they live in. Organizers say that presently, there is minimal support in the local region for those impacted by Tourette syndrome.

Tourette syndrome is a neurological disorder that is characterized by involuntary movements or vocalizations that are referred to as ‘tics’.

Officials say individuals with the conditions cannot avoid the urge to tic while in private and in public, leading to many misconceptions about the disorder.

Tourette Canada and Tourette Lethbridge are teaming to educate and build a community of support in an effort to reduce discrimination.
