New deputy commissioner heads Alberta RCMP

In a formal ceremony on August 21, new Deputy Commissioner Rob Hill took command of the Alberta RCMP, taking over from Curtis Zablocki.

Hill has served with the RCMP for 26 years. Most recently, Hill was commanding officer of the Manitoba RCMP after three years as its criminal operations officer.

Previously, he worked as an administration and personnel officer in Nunavut, officer in charge of the Stony Plain-Spruce Grove-Enoch detachment in Alberta, and as assistant district officer of the central Alberta district.

Deputy Commissioner Hill shared that his focus will be on supporting RCMP employees in Alberta by ensuring they have everything needed to enhance the safety and security of the communities they serve.

He said that with the right equipment and resources, he will be able to maintain RCMP accountability and build confidence and trust.

“Day after day, we show up for Albertans. We don’t do it for the recognition, or the parades, or to one day stand up behind a podium at a Change of Command Ceremony,” said Hill. “We do it for the safety of our communities, our neighbours, our families and friends. The work we do may not always be easy, but it is certainly honourable.”

As commanding officer, Deputy Commissioner Hill has assumed the responsibility of leading Alberta’s provincial police service, overseeing nearly 4,200 employees across 113 detachments serving more than 1.5 million Albertans.
