City of Lethbridge begins Galt Gardens construction landscaping project

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge has begun a new construction project in Galt Gardens.

The Galt Gardens SW Corner Landscaping Project is a collaboration between Parks and Urban Revitalization, and will improve the hardscaping, incorporate two new entrances to the pergola, and improve the lighting.

Fencing in the area is being put up on Wednesday, September 25, and the area will be closed off to pedestrians.

The project began with a collaboration between the University of Lethbridge and the City. During the fall 2020 semester, four students completed a project on short- and medium-term initiatives to make Galt Gardens more inclusive.

The City’s Parks and Urban Revitalization teams worked closely with Indigenous consultant Marjie Crop Eared Wolf on elements of the design, art and language. The City says that bringing more people and positive activity to Galt Gardens will help reduce the undesirable behaviour.

The construction cost for the landscaping project is $437,000, and the bulk of the project is expected to be done by the end of October. Some work will continue and be finished in Spring 2025.
