Cardiac Care expansion project at Chinook Regional Hospital moving to next phase

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The project aimed at expanding cardiac care services at the Chinook Regional Hospital is moving forward.

The planning work for a cardiac catheterization laboratory in Lethbridge began in 2022, and the provincial government says it is now complete.

They add that the next phase of the project will define its scope, schedule, budget and associated impacts.

Minister of Health Adriana LaGrange says, “Residents in southern Alberta should not have to travel for comprehensive cardiac care. Expanding services and building a new cardiac catheterization lab will help residents access the services and treatments they need close to home.”

The announcement on Tuesday, October 22 stated that Alberta Health Services submitted a needs assessment for cardiac services in southern Alberta early in 2024.

AHS says the project timelines will be expedited by up to one year because the needs assessment for this project identified solutions within existing facilities, determined the project could advance to functional programming.

The completed program will be used to inform capital funding discussions and decisions for future budget preparations.
