Democratic US Rep. Chris Pappas wins fourth term in New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional District
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas was reelected to a fourth term Tuesday in New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional District, maintaining a firm Democratic grip on what once was a swing seat.
Pappas, who was first elected in 2018, defeated Republican former state Sen. Russell Prescott to keep the seat in the Democratic column. Party control of the district, which covers the eastern half of the state and includes its largest city, flipped five times in six election cycles from 2006 to 2016.
The 2nd District, which includes the cities of Nashua and Concord, hasn’t been in Republican hands since 2013. Democratic U.S. Rep. Annie Kuster, the longest serving member in the district’s history, is retiring after six terms. Former White House aide Maggie Goodlander, a Democrat, faces Republican activist Lily Tang Williams in the race for the open seat.
Those are New Hampshire’s only congressional districts. Neither of the state’s U.S. senators, both Democrats, were up for reelection.
