Funky-smelling water? City of Lethbridge says it’s still safe

Feb 27, 2025 | 9:19 AM

The City of Lethbridge says residents are still good to use their tap water, even if it smells a little unusual.

They say it is a normal and necessary part of the spring snowmelt.

Higher doses of chlorine are treating recent snowmelt and the associated runoff at the city’s Water Treatment Plant.

“The water remains safe for consumption and can be used as normal,” reads a notice from the City of Lethbridge.

As treatment adjustments take effect and the water in the system gets used, the taste and smell of your water should return to normal.
