The Chinook Sexual Assault Centre (CSAC) hopes that a new art exhibit can help to foster important conversations related to sexual violence.

Impact Unveiled: Beyond the Silence will be featured at the Yates Memorial Theatre Gallery from May to September 2025.

Lauryn Evans, a Trauma Support Navigator whose idea inspired the art show, says it includes contributions from local artists sharing messages of survival, strength, empowerment and the emotions tied to those experiences.

“Sexual violence is a reality that many carry – and it is often carried in silence and wrapped in a blanket of shame and secrecy. This art show seeks to challenge this notion, and instead offer recognition, comfort, a safe space, and courage,” says Evans. “When we create space for stories that are often hidden, denied, and carried in silence, we affirm the reality, truth, and humanity of those that have lived through these experiences.”

Thirty per cent of the proceeds from the art show will go to the CSAC.

May is Sexual Violence Awareness Month, and the art show is just one way that the CSAC is reaching out to the community.

The CSAC is hosting two training sessions related to sexual violence prevention and response. They are also partnering with The Owl Acoustic Lounge and local band Chrome Harvest for a fundraiser on Friday, May 23, coinciding with the band’s album release party.
