Waterton Lakes National Park closes area to visitors and traffic due to fire threat
WATERTON LAKES – The potential danger of encroaching fires has prompted the Waterton Lakes Superintendent to invoke Section 36(1) of the National Parks General Regulations (within the Canada National Parks Act), to close park areas to all traffic and travel until further notice.
The closures are due to the proximity of the Kenow fire directly west of Waterton Lakes National Park in the Flathead valley of British Columbia and the continued extreme fire hazard in the park.
Those who violate the closure notice can be issued a maximum fine of $25,000 under the Canada National Parks Act.
As of 12:30 Sunday (Sept 3), the following areas are closed to all traffic and travel until further notice.
