Lethbridge finishes tops in points at 2019 Southern Alberta Summer Games

PINCHER CREEK, AB – Earlier this month, Pincher Creek hosted the Southern Alberta Summer Games (SASG).

The competition ran from July 3 to 6 and marked the 50^th anniversary of the Games. The City of Lethbridge’s team finished tops in points with 4,380.

Athletes representing YQL racked up 144 gold medals, 90 silver and 69 bronze.

The MD of Pincher Creek earned 119 gold medals, 81 silver and 56 bronze. The MD of Taber capped off the top three with 66 gold medals, 50 silver, and 39 bronze.

There were 2,252 athletes and coaches registered for the Games. The youngest this year was four year old Odin Shenten of Pincher Creek, who participated in Photography, and the oldest was 92 year old Helen Currie of Vulcan County, who took part in cribbage matches.

The SASG are the largest consecutively running sporting event in western Canada. The Southern Alberta Recreation Association is the governing body for the Games and is made up of recreation professionals from across southern Alberta, plus representatives from regional and provincial sport bodies.

The 2020 Southern Alberta Summer Games will be held in Raymond July 8-11.
