Coaldale swimming pool’s 2019 summer swimming season uncertain

COALDALE, AB – A critical failure involving a crack in the filtration system in the Town of Coaldale’s outdoor pool means it will remain closed until at least the end of July, and potentially for the rest of the summer.

According to a notice from the Town, the crack was discovered recently during a routine pool inspection. A “spot” fix was also attempted; however, it was later determined that the equipment was beyond repair, and an entire new filtration system would be required.

Town officials now say they’re coming up with a budget and looking for a qualified contractor who will be able to help with the repairs in a timely manner.

Whether the pool opens at all this summer depends on when a new system can be sourced, along with the contractor, how much it will all cost, and then getting the proper approvals from Alberta Health Services (AHS).

In the meantime, anyone who registered for lessons can reschedule them, or get a refund. Staff working at the pool have been redeployed to assist staff in other areas.

The Town will also have more information when a definitive action plan has been established.
