LETHBRIDGE, AB – Following investigations, two recent fires in Lethbridge have been deemed accidental.

A blaze on the north side of the city, which occurred on Friday, July 26, left a man and his pets homeless. According to homeowner Bryan Beekman, he had rented out the garage of his home in the 2300 block of 7 Avenue North. Following a series of explosions, the building was caught up in flames.

The residents inside, including Beekman and his two dogs, were safely evacuated. One firefighter was taken to hospital with minor injuries and was released the same day.

Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services have since completed their investigation into the fire. Crews say that there is “no conclusive evidence” to determine the cause of the blaze, but it has officially been deemed accidental.

Firefighters from four stations responded and damage to the property is estimated at $200,000.

WEST LETHBRIDGE FIRE

Earlier this week, fire crews also responded to an incident in West Lethbridge. The residential building fire occurred along Mt. Sundance Place West at around 6:50 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30.

When emergency services arrived on scene, they found light smoke coming out of the open doors of the structure and no visible flames.

The occupant of the residence had discovered the fire in a bedroom. Crews from two stations responded to the incident and extinguished the fire.

No injuries were reported, and damage is estimated at $57,000.

Like the north side fire, this has also been investigated and has been deemed accidental.

Fire crews however, are reminding residents to never leave candles or open flame devices unattended.
