Man charged in Lethbridge after man’s finger nearly severed in assault

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge Police were called to Chinook Regional Hospital at approximately 10:14 pm on Friday, September 13th on reports of an assault.

According to the investigation, officers determined that a 25-year-old man, who is unfamiliar with the city, got lost looking for an address and was walking through an alley on the 1000 block of 2nd Ave South.

He told police that he saw an unknown man strike a woman. He yelled at the man to stop and was reportedly punched in the face.

“The altercation continued and the male pulled a knife and cut the victim’s hand, nearly severing his finger,” reads a media release from Lethbridge Police Service.

Paramedics took him to the hospital for treatment. The man will require surgery.

Surveillance video was obtained on Tuesday, September 17th by police. At approximately 4:50 pm, officers found the suspect near the corner of 10th Street and 2nd Ave South and arrested him without incident.

Police claim the man had a lock-picking kit, a hatchet, and prescription medication in someone else’s name.

Cody Levi Long Time Squirrel, 23, has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of break-in tools, and three counts of breach of a recognizance.

The suspect is in custody awaiting a Judicial Interim Release Hearing.
