U of L and Lethbridge College Weekend Sports Preview: Oct. 18-20, 2019

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Canada West Women’s Rugby Championship is just some of the action sports fans can take in this weekend.

Here’s a rundown of what the Lethbridge College Kodiaks and University of Lethbridge Pronghorns are up to Friday, Oct. 18 through Sunday, Oct. 20.

LETHBRIDGE COLLEGE KODIAKS

The Kodiaks basketball teams both start up their regular season this weekend. The men and women’s teams face Briercrest College tomorrow (Oct. 19).

The women’s game tips off at 6:00 p.m., with the men on the court at 8:00 p.m.

Both soccer teams continue to fight for a playoff spot. The women’s club visit Red Deer College tomorrow (Oct. 19) at 12:00 p.m., before a 12 o’clock start against the University of Alberta-Augustana on Sunday (Oct. 20) to close out the regular season.

The men’s team is at RDC as well on Saturday (Oct. 19), playing at 2:00 p.m., with a 2 o’clock start at the U of Alberta-Augustana on Sunday to wrap their regular season.

The men’s volleyball team starts their weekend tonight (Oct. 18) versus SAIT at 8:00 p.m. Tomorrow, it’s another 8 o’clock start versus the Trojans.

The women’s side faces SAIT earlier in the evening. Tonight, it’s a 6:00 p.m. start, with a 6 o’clock start as well tomorrow (Oct. 19).

U OF L PRONGHORNS

It’s a big weekend for the Pronghorns women’s rugby team. The crew hosts the 2019 Canada West Women’s Rugby Championship at the U of L Community Stadium.

Semi-final action is scheduled to start today (Oct. 18) with the ‘Horns against the University of Calgary Dinos (1:00 p.m.) In the second semi-final at 3:00 p.m., it will be the University of Victoria Vikes versus the UBC Thunderbirds.

The championship games will take place on Sunday, Oct. 20 with the bronze game at 11:00 a.m. and the gold/silver medal matchup at 1:00 p.m. More details about the teams can be found here.

The two basketball teams have the weekend off.

The women’s hockey team is at home against the University of Saskatchewan tonight (Oct. 18) at 7:00 p.m. and tomorrow, also at 7 o’clock.

The men’s team also plays the Huskies. However, they’ll be on the road in Saskatoon. Tonight’s matchup starts at 7:00 p.m., with tomorrow’s puck drop at 4:00 p.m.

The swimming team takes part in the Fall Challenge event in Lethbridge. Next week, they’ll face the University of Calgary Dinos (Oct. 25) before the Colleges Cup November 2 and 3.

The ringette team is in Calgary against Mount Royal University tomorrow (Oct. 19) at 9:00 p.m. before a 3:30 p.m. Sunday game against West Hillhurst.

Both soccer teams close out their regular seasons on the road. The women are against the University of Winnipeg at 7:00 p.m. tonight (Oct. 18) and against the University of Manitoba tomorrow at 7 o’clock.

The women’s club sits in the final playoff spot, four points ahead of Mount Royal with a record of 1-5-6. Any combination of a U of L win or a loss by Mount Royal would secure a spot for the ‘Horns in the Canada West playoffs.

The men’s soccer squad is in Edmonton tomorrow (Oct. 19) against MacEwan University. On Sunday, they’ll face the University of Alberta Pandas.

The men’s team, with a record of 0-10-2 will not be making the playoffs but hope to end a seven-game losing streak.
