Police lay assault, weapon and drug charges in Wednesday morning incident

LETHBRIDGE — A 36-year-old man has been charged connection with an altercation involving a knife along a busy street Wednesday (Nov 13) morning.

Around 11:00, a 55-year-old man was stopped for a red light in the southbound lanes of Mayor Magrath Drive, when an unknown male on the west side of the road began motioning for him to pull over.

The driver parked near the Campbell Clinic and got out of his vehicle to speak to the male, who was standing next to a second male with bike.

The man on the street began yelling and produced a large knife making numerous stabbing gestures and then advanced on the driver, who was able to escape to his vehicle and drive away without injury.

Police were contacted and arrested the suspect a short distance away. Officers seized a large folding knife and 11 pre-packaged doses of fentanyl.

Stanley Wade Standing Alone, is charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and breach of a weapons prohibition. He was remanded in custody to appear in court Nov. 18.
