Trial dates set for Triple M Housing
LETHBRIDGE, AB – Two weeks of trial dates have been set for Triple M Housing, after company lawyers entered pleas of not guilty to 13 Occupational Health and Safety (OH &S) Charges in early October.
The charges are in relation to an industrial accident that took place May 15, 2017, when a steel truss fell onto employee Angela Entz, paralyzing her from the neck down. Entz was flown by STARS Air Ambulance from Lethbridge to Calgary Foothills hospital where she remained for several months following surgery and extensive rehabilitative efforts. She now has some use of her hands but remains in a wheelchair.
Some of the charges the company is facing include failing to ensure the health and safety of a worker by failing to enforce the use of spotters when operating a crane system, failing to provide instruction on where stands should have been placed, and that stands or other objects were not placed by the guard railing located on the mezzanine level, failing to ensure that the worker did not work in the potential fall path of objects from the mezzanine level above the work area, failure to assess their work site and identify existing or potential hazards and eight other charges.
A Pre-Trial Conference is set for early December. The first week of the trial will take place from May 25- 29 and will continue again from June 15-19, 2020.
