U of L track stars compete at U SPORTS championships, Troschke wins bronze medal

EDMONTON, AB – The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns have wrapped up their season following a performance at the U SPORTS Championships.

The event was hosted by the University of Alberta in Edmonton. For the third straight year, the University of Guelph Gryphons men and women’s team captured gold.

The men’s team racked up 139 points over the three-day event, while the Gryphons women’s club finished with 138 points.

For the men, the Calgary Dinos placed second as a team with 69 points and the Saskatchewan Huskies at third with 51.

On the women’s side, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues finished second with 86.5 points and Laval Rouge et Or in third with 58 points.

The University of Lethbridge men’s team finished in 18th place with eight points.

The women’s team did not place in the top 24. The women’s team was hit with a crucial blow before the competition, as U SPORTS gold medallist Sandra Latrace could not compete due to injury.

The U of L was represented by Andreas Troschke, Ben Ingvaldson, Brayden Klippenstein and Xavier Crosby. The women’s side was represented by Madeline Szabo and Caitlyn Bailes.

On day two of competition, Troschke placed third in the men’s weight throw (17. 64 metres), earning a bronze medal.
