Parents in Lethbridge must commit to at-home or in-school learning by August 10

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge School Division has released its new parent survey.

Earlier this month, the provincial government announced that schools would be resuming in September with “near-normal” operations, which includes a variety of health and safety protocols.

Since some parents are hesitant about sending their children to school during the COVID-19 pandemic, the school board has developed an “opt-out” of in-school instruction with an at-home delivery program.

No later than August 10, parents will have to fill out the parent survey for each child by noon on Monday, August 10 to let officials know whether they will be assigned to an at-home learning cohort or be at school and assigned to a class cohort.

“As you can appreciate, the school division and schools need at least two weeks to plan for instruction based on your response in the survey,” reads a statement from Superintendent Cheryl Gilmore. “We will need to put at-home learning students into cohorts based on your response, assign at-home learning teachers, and then reconfigure in-school assignments based on how many students will be in class at each school site.”

The survey will also be important for figuring out how transportation will work since seating on school busses will be limited.

The survey can be accessed online here.

A spokesperson with the Holy Spirit Catholic School Division told LNN that they will release a similar survey in the first week of August, likely no later than Tuesday.
