LETHBRIDGE, AB– Over the next two months, Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) will be placing a smashed-up car around Lethbridge to show the dangers of impaired driving.

On Friday, July 31st, to tell and show the possible impacts of impaired driving, MADD, Lethbridge Police, RCMP, and Cornerstone Funeral Home gathered for a symbolic ceremony.

Anita Huchala with MADD Lethbridge wants to send a clear message of safety especially with the long weekend coming up.

“Go out, have fun, but make a plan and pick someone who is willing to stay sober and have a designated driver.”

Lethbridge Police added that, over the last six months, 62 impaired drivers have been charged, and even that number is down because of COVID-19 restrictions.

“We need to be doing something more to get our message out there and get these people to stop driving impaired and make our roadway safe.”

The car shown in the image has not been in an accident, but Huchala adds it has a symbolic meaning relating to impaired driving collisions.

Starting August 1st you will be able to see the car at numerous different locations, those locations have not been chosen at this time.
