New assistant coach for Pronghorns women’s basketball team boasts impressive resume

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns women’s basketball team has added a decorated name to its coaching staff.

Paige Crozon will join the team as an assistant coach.

“I’m very excited to be joining the U of L Women’s Basketball squad,” Crozon said in a release.

“It has been wonderful to get to know the athletes and be back around basketball at the university level. I’m very grateful for [head coach] Dave Waknuk and the University of Lethbridge Athletic Administration for providing me with this opportunity and helping me begin my coaching career.”

Crozon is one of 16 coaches that have been selected throughout the country in any sport to be named to the 2020 Canadian Association of Enhanced Female Mentorship Program.

The program will have the selected coaches work with veteran U SPORTS, national team and Olympic coaches to hone their skills.

“Even though the mentorship program has just begun, it has helped in numerous ways, including empowering women in coaching roles,” Crozon said.

The Humboldt, Saskatchewan player was a starter for four years and a captain for two at the University of Utah in the NCAA. She was the team’s leading scorer (13.1 points per game) and rebounder (8.2) in 2016, and became the 27^th player in Utes history to score 1,000 career points.

Crozon was received an All-Conference Honorable Mention for the PAC-12 in 2016 and was a three-time PAC-12 All-Academic.

Additionally, she’s competed with the Canadian national program multiple times, including at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Crozon was a member of Team Canada 3X3 that finished second in the 2019 Women’s Series. She also represented Canada at the FISU Games in 2017, the Under-17 Cadet World Championships in 2010 and the Under-19 Junior World Championships in 2011.

After her time playing in the NCAA, Crozon played professionally for the Saarlouis Royals in the First Division of the German Women’s Professional Basketball League.

The Pronghorns women’s basketball team is scheduled to return to practice on September 14^th. The hope is to have the Canada West season start in January 2021.

Canada West is set to make a decision on the two semester sports on October 8.
