South Zone sees 494 COVID cases, seven deaths over long weekend

LETHBRIDGE, AB — Alberta Health Services has released its report on COVID-19 for Tuesday, covering statistics compiled over the past four days for the long weekend.

In that time, 4,903 cases were confirmed, or a daily average of 1,225. To date, there have been 261,888 cases in Alberta including 15,486 that are active and 243,95 people who have recovered.

In the South Zone, 494 people tested positive over the previous four days, averaging 123 each day.

Active infections across the region increased by 169.

Over the last four days, 17 Albertans died as a result of the virus with seven in the South Zone, five in the Calgary Zone, three in the Central Zone, and one each in the Edmonton and North Zones. To date, 2,407 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

Four of those deaths in the South Zone were for residents of Medicine Hat and one each for Brooks, the M.D. of Pincher Creek, and the County of Newell.

Provincially, 602 patients are currently hospitalized including 137 who have been admitted to intensive care.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone in Alberta:

  • Calgary Zone – 104,051 cases, 4,187 active
    • 164 in hospital, 40 in ICU
    • 726 deaths (five new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 86,139 cases, 4,634 active
    • 202 in hospital, 54 in ICU
    • 1,121 deaths (one new)
  • North Zone – 31,633 cases, 2,948 active
    • 71 in hospital, seven in ICU
    • 216 deaths (one new)
  • Cental Zone – 24,225 cases, 2,096 active
    • 83 in hospital, 16 in ICU
    • 186 deaths (three new)
  • South Zone – 15,767 cases, 1,567 active
    • 82 in hospital, 20 in ICU
    • 158 deaths (seven new)

Below is a breakdown of new cases in the South Health Zone. New cases are listed in brackets and are for the past four days:

  • Lethbridge – 5,256 cases (98 new), 257 active, 40 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 2,004 cases (46 new), 106 active, four deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 1,747 cases (25 new), 74 active, 11 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 1,600 cases (27 new), 75 active, 25 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 2,753 cases (175 new), 586 active, 35 deaths (four new)
  • Brooks – 1,686 cases (29 new), 97 active, 16 deaths (one new)
  • Lethbridge County – 1,403 cases (29 new), 85 active, 14 deaths
  • Cardston County – 1,250 cases (34 new), 156 active, 22 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 713 cases (48 new), 106 active, six deaths
  • Cypress County – 561 cases (40 new), 115 active, one death
  • County of Warner – 505 cases (11 new), 25 active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 422 cases (seven new), 41 active, six deaths (one new)
  • Fort Macleod – 364 cases (14 new), 39 active, six deaths
  • County of Newell – 303 cases (eight new), 28 active, four deaths (one new)
  • County of Forty Mile – 179 cases (four new), eight active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 104 cases (four new), 11 active, one death
