Fort Macleod emergency department to temporarily close Thursday-Friday morning

Sep 8, 2021 | 4:48 PM

FORT MACLEOD, AB – Residents of Fort Macleod are being advised that there will be no emergency physician coverage in the community for about one day.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) says the Fort Macleod Health Centre Emergency Department (ED) will temporarily close between 8:00 am on Thursday, September 9 and 8:00 am on Friday, September 10.

The reason cited is that the facility “will be without on-site physician coverage.”

“This is a temporary measure and AHS is working hard to ensure local residents continue to have access to the care they need during this time,” reads a media advisory from AHS.

Nursing staff will remain on-site to provide care for inpatients with one local physician in the community.

Patients having a medical emergency are asked to call 911. They will be re-routed to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, which is approximately 50 km away.

“We are thankful for the support of surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff and would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding during this time.”

Residents with non-emergency health questions can phone Health Link at 811.
