LPS warns public as two motorcycles caught going over 200 km/h

Oct 4, 2021 | 2:20 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge Police are urging residents to have caution as they say a photo radar operator recently clocked two motorcycles going 206 and 209 km/h on a roadway with a set speed limit of 80 km/h.

At around 5:30 pm on September 25 in the 4300-block and 5800-block of Highway 4 South, police say these speeds were reached.

While the two motorcyclists both earned a summons to appear in court on December 14, 2021, “the outcome could have easily been much more tragic given the excessive speed they were travelling,” the release states.

Lethbridge Police are investigating a recent collision where a motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital in Calgary in serious condition after colliding with a pickup truck. Excessive speed is being investigated as a possible contributing factor.

LPS put out a warning for residents in Lethbridge:

“The Police Service urges all drivers to obey the rules of the road, especially posted speed limits.

Those operating motorcycles are particularly vulnerable to serious injury in the event of a collision. Please slow down so you can arrive safely at your destination.”
