Hurricanes drop Friday night matchup 4-0 to Oil Kings

EDMONTON, AB – The home ice advantage worked in Edmonton’s favor Friday night, as the Oil Kings picked up a 4-0 win against the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes.

FIRST PERIOD

Simon Kubicek was issued a minor penalty at 1:47 for cross checking. Lethbridge’s Alex Cotton was then called for interference at the 2:09 mark.

The game’s first goal came at 4:14, with Luke Prokop putting Edmonton up 1-0, off assists from Jacob Boucher and Simon Kubicek.

Before the buzzer sounded, Rhys Raeside (Lethbridge) and Shea Van Olm (Edmonton) got into a scuffle, sending both players to the box.

SECOND PERIOD

The second period saw no goals, but three penalties were issued.

At the 3:00 mark, Sebastian Cossa was called for interference, but his Oil Kings teammate Van Olm served the penalty. Edmonton’s Eric Johnston was issued a minor for tripping at 12:57.

The final call of the frame came at 18:41, when Lethbridge’s Logan Barlage was sent to the box for slashing.

THIRD PERIOD

34 seconds into the game’s final period, Josh Williams (Edmonton) was given a minor for tripping. Briley Wood of the Hurricanes was called for the same offence at 3:21.

Lethbridge’s Noah Boyko was given a minor for checking from behind at 9:08 before Josh Williams scored the second goal of the game at the 11:06 mark to put the Oil Kings up 2-0.

At the 17:20 mark, Simon Kubicek was called for delaying the game, but Lethbridge was unable to capitalize on the power play. Instead, Edmonton scored the short-handed goal, with Dylan Guenther picking up his first of the season at 17:27 on Lethbridge’s empty net.

Logan Barlage of the Hurricanes was then issued a minor at 17:57 before Luke Prokop scored his second of the game at the 18:59 mark, right before the final buzzer rang, to give Edmonton the 4-0 win.

Prokop was named the first star of the game, followed by teammates Sebastian Cossa, who earned the shut-out, and Josh Williams.

Up next for Lethbridge is another road matchup. The ‘Canes visit Red Deer on Friday, October 22. The Oil Kings, meanwhile, face the Red Deer Rebels this Sunday, October 17 in Edmonton.
