2022 Property Tax Notices mailed out in Lethbridge this week

May 25, 2022 | 10:52 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – 2022 Property tax notices are being mailed out Wednesday, May 25.

Taxes are due in Lethbridge by June 30, 2022. A 7% penalty will be applied to all unpaid 2022 tax balances as of July 1, 2022.

Property owners in Lethbridge who do not receive a notice by June 1 can log into MyCity and register their property using the roll number and access code located on the Property Assessment Notice sent to them January 5, 2022. A copy of the tax notice can be reprinted once registered.

If property owners are unable to do this, they are advised to call 311 (or 403-320-3111 if calling from outside of Lethbridge), or email tax@lethbridge.ca.

The City of Lethbridge said due to delays at the Alberta Land Title Office, some property owners may have taken possession of a property in the city, but are not registered on title yet. If this is the case and owners have not received their tax notice, they are asked to contact the City of Lethbridge for a copy. Proof of ownership will be required.

Late payment penalties will not be waived if residents did not receive their tax notice.

The following payment options are available:

  • Online or by telephone banking using the 13-digit roll number located on the top right of the tax notice.
  • Cheques or money orders, made payable to the City of Lethbridge, can be mailed or dropped off at City Hall (910 4 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 0P6).
  • Directly at your bank, and the City will accept the teller stamp date as the date of payment received.
    • Property owners are asked to NOT send cash by mail.
    • The City has a secure mailbox located at the front doors of City Hall and a blue drive-through drop box located in the traffic circle behind City Hall.
  • Cash, cheques, and debit card payments are accepted by cashiers on the main floor at City Hall from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The City does not accept credit card payments for taxes.

Additionally, property owners have the option of using the City’s monthly Tax Instalment Prepayment Plan (TIPP). TIPP provides an annual discount credit of 1.25%.

Property owners whose 2022 taxes are paid in full, can sign up for TIPP before July 20, 2022 to be enrolled in the program for their 2023 property taxes. More information on TIPP is at the City of Lethbridge website.

In December 2020, Lethbridge City Council approved a 0% increase in the operating budget, helping to minimize tax increases in the city. However, residents may see a tax increase on their bills for other reasons, including a change to their property assessment, or change in taxes collected by the provincial government for the education tax and the Green Acres Foundation budget.

Further details about taxes are available by calling 311 or by visiting the City of Lethbridge website.
