City of Lethbridge seeking feedback on Waste Management Master Plan

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Now is your opportunity to talk trash to the City of Lethbridge, but not literally.

The City has launched phase two of public engagement for the Waste Management Master Plan.

Steve Rozee, General Manager of Waste and Recycling, says he is looking forward to speaking with members of the public after the COVID-19 pandemic altered their engagement plans.

“We want to hear how the community feels about waste management options, ideas to improve services and how we can best respond to the changing needs of the community,” says Rozee.

Some of the areas of public feedback being sought include the barriers to reducing household waste, exploring incentives to encourage more residential diversion, and ways that the city should be involved in creating a more sustainable community.

This information will help in the creation of a comprehensive Waste Management Master Plan, which will guide the future of waste diversion and prevention-related activities in Lethbridge.

Joel Sanchez, Director of Infrastructure Services, says a circular economy focuses on making the most of all resources, eliminating waste, and finding reuse options wherever possible.

“We will be using community insights to shape the new Waste Management Master Plan, so we can continue to provide cost-effective, sustainable and convenient waste management services to residents,” says Sanchez.

The first phase of engagement occurred in 2020, the results of which can be read in the What We Heard Report.
