Lethbridge County commits $2 million to Exhibition Park expansion

LETHBRIDGE COUNTY, AB – The Agri-food Hub and Trade Centre in Lethbridge is getting a major funding boost.

Lethbridge County has announced that it will contribute $2 million dollars to the expansion project at Exhibition Park.

Reeve Tory Campbell says the county council is focused on building relationships, strengthening the region, and fostering an environment that will encourage investments and innovation in technology.

He feels that the expanded facility will help them to accomplish those goals.

“With Council’s unanimous decision to make this considerable investment, we feel we have followed through on our vision of Lethbridge County being one of Canada’s most innovative rural communities,” says Campbell. “We eagerly anticipate the opening of the Agri-food Hub and Trade Centre in the spring of 2023, and look forward to working with Lethbridge & District Exhibition to further strengthen our relationship and showcase all that our region has to offer.”

The 268,000 square foot facility will double the current hosting capacity at Exhibition Park and will be able to accommodate more and larger events.

The total estimated cost of the Agri-food Hub and Trade Centre is $70 million.

Lethbridge & District Exhibition CEO Mike Warkentin says he is proud to partner with Lethbridge County on this project.

“Our shared vision and collaboration with Lethbridge County reignites Canada’s Premier Food Corridor as an economic catalyst for growth in agricultural advancement,” says Warkentin. “Our campus will invite the world to gather, celebrate and experience a community that feeds the country.”

The Agri-food Hub and Trade Centre is expected to open in spring 2023.
