Lethbridge Legion celebrates National Flag of Canada Day
LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Royal Canadian Legion General Stewart Branch held short ceremonies outside of Lethbridge City Hall and the Lethbridge Legion on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 to raise the Canadian flag in celebration of National Flag of Canada Day.
The National Flag of Canada was inaugurated on February 15, 1965 at Parliament Hill in Ottawa to commemorate the newly redesigned Canadian flag. On the same day in 1996, it was officially declared National Flag of Canada Day.
The President of the General Stewart Branch No.4 Paul Brundige and Co-Chair of Public Relations Committee Glenn Miller also visited Senator Joyce Fairbairn Middle School to talk to Grade 6 students about the flag and its history.
“It gives us something that we can stand behind, be proud of and wave, and people know that we’re who we are. When you’re wearing that flag on your shoulder, people recognize it right away. There is no question who we are and what we stand for.” said Brundige.
