LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge is looking to support not-for-profit organizations that are wanting to host special events.

The Community Event Support Grant (CSEG) provides funding to initiate and develop new events or help with the maintenance of existing ones. Eligible organizations can use grant funds for the operation of their event or for services and facility rentals provided by the City of Lethbridge. That includes police and/or fire services, traffic signs and barricades, transportation by city transit, or city facility rentals.

According to officials, the maximum funding amount organizations can receive through the CESG is a matching financial contribution of up to $7,500 which does not exceed 50 per cent of the event budget.

Events that can qualify fall under four different categories:

  • Sport Competitions – a single event or tournament competition comprised of a combination of local and external competitors, coordinated by a local organizing community and volunteer base;
  • Community Festivals – annual events actively programmed around a theme, with a focus on community organization and participation, requiring a significant commitment of facilities or impact on the community. This includes entertainment-based events where the festival celebration is the primary goal;
  • Conferences – events providing an educational or networking opportunity that benefit citizens of Lethbridge while attracting delegates or participants from outside of the community. Events cannot be exclusive in manner and should include at least a minimal opportunity for the public or special interest groups;
  • Advocacy – an apolitical or non-religious based gathering that benefits the community at large. It cannot be controversial or divisive in nature.

In the past, the City of Lethbridge has provided the CESG to support events like the International Peace PowWow, the YWCA – Queen Elizabeth ll’s Platinum Jubilee Award Ceremony, and the Gujarati Society of Lethbridge & Area – Festival of Lights.

The application deadline for the CESG is on May 1, 2023, and more information can be found at the City of Lethbridge website.
