LETHBRIDGE, AB – It’s only a few days until the start of a popular festival in Lethbridge.

The annual Whoop-Up Days will kick off on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 with the parade.

Country music star Corb Lund will serve as the marshal for this year’s parade, which is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. at Park Place Mall. This year, the parade and Whoop-Up Days will celebrate the city of Lethbridge as Canada’s hub for agriculture.

Thrill seekers can also enjoy midway rides and carnival food, including the ever-popular Jumbo Ears.

Proceeds from the sale of Jumbo Ears will go towards the Lethbridge and District International Baseball Association, which runs the Lethbridge Longhorns high school program.

Pro wrestling fans can enjoy some Pure Power Wrestling (PPW) action at Whoop-Up Days as well.

A full list of events is available online at the Lethbridge and District Exhibition website.

Mike Warkentin, CEO of Lethbridge and District Exhibition said attendees will have the chance to check out the newly-opened Agri-food Hub and Trade Centre, as it “changes the dynamic of Whoop-Up Days”.

He explained, “People will enter through the building and get to experience the building on their way out to the West Coast Amusements midway.”

Some events, like PPW’s Hot Summer Night and the Whoop-Up Days Marketplace will take place inside the Agri-food Hub and Trade Centre.

Gate admission to Whoop-Up Days is free for 2023, and Warkentin noted the festival will include something for everyone while showcasing local talent.

He stated, “Whoop-Up Days really is a community fair. It is something for the community to come together as a culmination of summer holidays and this year, we really wanted to celebrate local.”

“In conjunction with our free admission to bring more of the community out, we also wanted to celebrate the exceptional local talent we have in local artists, and that’s why we programmed the stage with southern Alberta artists this year.”
