LETHBRIDGE, AB – A country music star has been named the marshal for the Whoop-Up Days Parade in Lethbridge. Corb Lund will lead the annual parade on Tuesday, August 22, 2023.

The theme of this year’s event is ‘Celebrating Southern Alberta: Canada’s Agriculture Destination’, which Lethbridge & District Exhibition said aligns with the western culture present in Lund’s music.

Mike Warkentin, CEO of Lethbridge & District Exhibition said, “As a born and raised Southern Albertan, Corb Lund has played a leading role in showcasing the heart of our region to a world-wide audience.”

“What Corb is able to do through his music is what Lethbridge & District Exhibition attempts to do through Whoop-Up Days – bring people together, share an authentic experience, and shine a light on this amazing part of the world. We are thrilled Corb is able to join us and lead our parade this summer.”

Over the course of his career, Lund has won a JUNO, multiple Canadian County Music Awards (CCMA), and has secured many international award nominations and wins.

In a news release, the artist stated, “It’s an honour to lead the Whoop-Up Days Parade in Lethbridge, especially given the theme of this year’s event; celebrating Southern Alberta.”

He added, “Both sides of my family have been here a long time. Though I’m lucky enough to travel all over the world singing about this place, it always feels great to come back to the foothills and the prairie that are home to me.”

The 2023 Whoop-Up Parade will start at 9 a.m. on August 22, with Park Place Mall serving as the starting spot for the event. The parade will then move along 3 Street S., east on 3 Ave. S., north on 13 Street N., and then east on 9 Ave. N. before dispersing at Galbraith Elementary School.

The parade is free to enter, with applications open until August 1. Applications can be filled out online.
