Lethbridge population estimated at 111,400

Statistics Canada has released new population estimates for communities across the country.

As of July 1, 2024, they say the City of Lethbridge was home to 111,400 residents.

That is an increase of 4,445 or 4.16 per cent from the same time in 2023.

The population of Lethbridge has steadily grown over the last three years, averaging a three per cent increase each year since 2021’s estimate of 102,097.

Lethbridge maintains its position as the fourth-largest city in Alberta, trailing Red Deer by 1,517 people.

Statistics Canada estimates that 4,888,723 people called Alberta home as of July with just over 56 per cent living in either Calgary or Edmonton.

Calgary’s population grew to 1,569,133 in 2024 and was the fastest-growing census metropolitan area (CMA) in all of Canada.

An estimated 1,190,458 people lived in the provincial capital of Edmonton, making it the fourth-fastest-growing CMA.

The 10 largest Alberta municipalities south of Calgary were:

  1. Lethbridge: 111,400
  2. Medicine Hat: 67,909
  3. Okotoks: 33,096
  4. Brooks: 16,918
  5. Lethbridge County: 10,784
  6. Taber: 9,853
  7. Coaldale: 9,433
  8. Municipal District of Taber: 7,934
  9. Cypress County: 7,790
  10. Newell County: 7,731
