Hurricanes rock the Saskatoon Blades 6-1 Wednesday night

LETHBRIDGE, AB – In one of the more bizarre scoring games in the history of the Lethbridge Hurricanes, the ‘Canes pulled away with a 6-1 victory against Saskatoon Wednesday night.

Lethbridge hosted the Blades at the ENMAX Centre in front of a crowd of 2,742 fans. No goals were scored in the first or second period, but the Hurricanes caught fire in the third, scoring all six of their goals in the game’s final frame.

FIRST PERIOD

3:51 into the game’s first period, Saskatoon’s Brandon Lisowsky was issued a minor penalty for tripping.

Kade Nolan of the Hurricanes was sent to the box for interference at the 18:09 mark.

SECOND PERIOD

8:13 into the second, Tyson Laventure (Lethbridge) was issued a minor penalty for hooking. His teammate Easton Kovacs was called for holding at the 14:04 mark.

THIRD PERIOD

The third period is when the action truly picked up.

Below is a breakdown of goals scored in the third:

  • Joe Arntsen got things started early at the 1:44 mark, with his sixth goal of the season. Alex Thacker and Justin Hall got the assists to put Lethbridge up 1-0.
  • At 2:16, Logan McCutcheon scored his fourth of the year, with Liekit Reichle garnering the assist. Lethbridge went up 2-0.
  • Logan Wormald scored his 12th of the season to put the ‘Canes up 3-0 at 9:40. Assists went to Miguel Marques and Joe Arntsen.
  • Jordan Keller scored his first of the season for Saskatoon, cutting Lethbridge’s lead to 3-1 at 10:51. Keller’s goal was assisted by Josh Paulhus and Misha Volotovskii.
  • Arntsen would score again for Lethbridge, putting the ‘Canes up 4-1 at 13:42. Justin Hall and Alex Thacker earned the assists.
  • Chase Pauls scored his eighth of the season, an empty netter, off assists from Justin Hall and Alex Thacker at 15:31. Lethbridge was up 5-1.
  • The final goal of the game came from Brayden Edwards at 19:02 to seal the 6-1 win for Lethbridge.

The third period got heated between players as well:

  • Saskatoon’s Egor Sidorov received a minor for roughing with Lethbridge’s Kade Nolan also being sent to the box at 15:18.
  • Vaugh Watterodt (Saskatoon) and Joe Arntsen of the Hurricanes got into it at 17:16. Both players received major penalties for fighting along with game misconducts.

UP NEXT

Following Wednesday night’s 6-1 win, the Lethbridge Hurricanes travel to Red Deer to face the Rebels on Friday, April 8. Game time at the Peavey Mart Centrium on Friday is 7:00 p.m.

The Hurricanes sit in seventh place in the Western Hockey League’s (WHL) Eastern Conference with a record of 30-30-3-1 (64 points).

The Blades, meanwhile, return home to Saskatoon Friday, April 8. They host the Prince Albert Raiders. The Blades currently sit in fifth place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 36-26-3-1 (76 points).

The three stars of Wednesday’s game were Lethbridge’s Joe Arntsen with two goals and one assist, Justin Hall with three assists and Bryan Thomson with 23 saves for the Hurricanes.
