Local high school wrestlers qualify for Provincial Championships

SEXSMITH – Wrestlers from a couple of area high schools performed well over the weekend at the Alberta School Athletic Association Rural Provincial Wrestling Championship in Sexsmith.

The ASAA Rural Provincial Championships are for students in Grade 10-12 and run as a qualifier for the Provincial Championships. 

The top 5 qualifiers in each category qualify to attend and compete against the qualifiers from Edmonton and Calgary.

The LCI Women’s Team won the gold medal in the 3A division.

Sophie Strong – 1st

Taylor Goth – 1st

Kelsea Peterson- 2nd

Camille Bly – 3rd

The LCI Men’s Team won the silver medal in the 3A division.

Callum Hyland – 2nd

Justin Bly – 3rd

Logan Oliver – 4th

Jackson Zeck – 5th

Mason Harris, wrestling for Chinook High School placed first and gave Chinook 3rd in Men’s 4A team competition, while Winston Churchill wrestler Aiden Arn finished in 2nd place.

All of the wrestlers that attended have qualified for the ASAA Provincial Championships in Medicine Hat on March 9th and 10th.
