LETHBRIDGE, AB – Curbside recycling is now a reality in Lethbridge.

On Monday morning, crews began to distribute the blue recycling bins to homes in north Lethbridge. Mayor Chris Spearman was on hand and said the cart delivery will continue until May 10.

“We’re starting in the north side, then the south side and then finally the west side. If you’re living in north Lethbridge this week, you’re probably receiving your blue bins,” he said.

The bins come with a guide on what can and what cannot be recycled, and Spearman is asking residents to take a close look at it in order to ensure the curbside recycling program’s success.

Further details on what items can and cannot go into the carts can be found through the City’s website.

“The blue bins are finally rolling out in (Lethbridge) and we hope this means that more people will participate in recycling,” he said.

“It’s great to see Lethbridge moving along and we no longer will be the only city in Alberta that doesn’t have blue box recycling.”

Each bin also includes a scan code. Spearman said each bin’s code is matched with an address. So, if the bin goes missing, it can be found with the code.

The first blue cart pick-up will happen between May 14 and 24, 2019.
