PINCHER CREEK, AB – Another southern Alberta arena is in the running in the Kraft Hockeyville competition.

The Memorial Community Centre Arena in Pincher Creek joins the Logan Boulet Arena in Lethbridge and the Taber Ice Arena in the annual contest.

The winner of Kraft Hockeyville will receive $250,000 for upgrades and the winning town will host an NHL game.

In the submission made by Marie E. through the Kraft Hockeyville website, the arena needs electrical upgrades and fixes to its sound and announcement system, as well as upgrades to the stands and bleachers area.

The submission states that the money would also be used to relocate the Zamboni room.

“Currently, our Zamboni has to cross in front of the main entrance to the stands, which can be a safety hazard,” reads the submission.

The submission says that hockey has been a foundation of the Pincher Creek community in the winter months and a “Jersey Day” was started years ago, with the original goal being to build hype around the Kraft Hockeyville competition. It’s since become an ongoing ‘community spirit day’ to celebrate hockey and coming together.

“Jersey Day” is being celebrated today (Feb. 5) along with Pincher Creek’s winter walk event.

Nominations for Kraft Hockeyville are open until February 9, 2020, with judging taking place from February 10 to March 13. The winner will eventually be announced on March 28.
