LPS have “suspicious package” suspect in custody

LETHBRIDGE, AB – After a “suspicious package” was placed at the Lethbridge Police Station, police now have the suspect in custody.

Police have arrested a 29-year-old man in relation to the package being left at the station.

They were alerted about 10:15 a.m. when a man threw the package into the front vestibule of the police station before he fled the scene on a bicycle.

The Lethbridge Fire Department and its Hazardous Material Unit (HAZMAT) were alerted and placed on standby and determined the package was not explosive in nature.

The HAZMAT Unit attended and verified the package contained no hazardous materials either.

No further details will be released at this time as the matter is still under investigation.
