LETHBRIDGE, AB – Albertans were eagerly waiting Thursday morning for the opportunity to book their COVID-19 vaccination appointments.

The province announced this week that, starting on May 6, all Albertans aged 30 and up would be eligible for immunization for Pfizer or Moderna’s mRNA doses.

Bookings opened up early in the morning, and five hours in, Premier Jason Kenney took to social media to report that around 100,000 people in that age category had already signed up.

“Fantastic news: 100,000 vaccine appointments were booked in less than 5 hours this morning. Thank you to all Albertans who booked their shots to #StopTheSpike.”

An LNN employee got their first dose Thursday morning at the Immunization Centre at Exhibition Park. A worker with AHS informed us that approximately 800 people in Lethbridge were set to be immunized today.

As of the end of May 4, 1,694,675 doses of COVID-19 vaccine had been administered across the province. 305,511 people had already received two doses.

Starting this coming Monday, all Albertans aged 12 or older will be able to book their vaccine appointments.

Once this happens, AHS says 3.8 million Albertans, or about 86 per cent of the provincial population, will be eligible.
