Jenn Schmidt-Rempel running for Lethbridge City Council

LETHBRIDGE, AB – One of the 32 people vying for a seat on Lethbridge City Council in October’s municipal election is Jenn Schmidt-Rempel.

She told LNN that she first wanted to run for office after the city implemented the curbside recycling collection program a few years ago.

Schmidt-Rempel spoke to local business owners, who already had their own recycling systems, but were told they had to change it to the municipal program.

“When I started thinking about it and I started voicing my opinion around how I felt how things were going, I was actually called in by some of the senior administration at the city at that time and I was told, maybe, I shouldn’t be arguing so much about what they were doing.”

She’s running on a four-pillared platform: people, service, business, and community.

The key for her is business and her belief that more work needs to be done to make Lethbridge a true regional economic hub.

“I would be looking at focusing on what we can do to support our businesses through the recovery post-COVID and post-the economic downturn that we’ve had recently. So what can we do to support our businesses through that recovery through their retention efforts and what do our small businesses, medium businesses need in our city?”

Schmidt-Rempel has a widely diverse background that includes work with Lethbridge Public Library, Lethbridge Living Magazine, the Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Lethbridge, and owning small businesses in the city.

General voting day for the Alberta 2021 municipal election is October 18.
