Milk River’s emergency department to temporarily close

Oct 7, 2021 | 5:15 PM

MILK RIVER, AB – Residents of Milk River are being advised of a temporary closure to the town’s emergency health department.

The Milk River Health Centre Emergency Department will not be operating from 8:00 am on Friday, October 8 to 8:00 am on Tuesday, October 12.

The reason cited by AHS is that they will be without on-site physician coverage.

“This is a temporary measure and AHS is working hard to ensure local residents continue to have access to the care they need during this time,” reads the notice from AHS. “Nursing staff will remain on-site in providing care for inpatients.”

Patients requiring emergency care in Milk River during this time will be re-routed to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, which is about 87 km away.

Residents can still call Health Link at 811, which is open 24/7 for non-emergency health-related questions.
