Operation Red Nose not offering service in Alberta for 2021 holiday season

LETHBRIDGE, AB – For the second year in a row, Operation Red Nose will not take place in Alberta.

The Canada-wide initiative offers safe rides home for individuals over the holidays, in an effort to curb impaired driving. Due to COVID-19, the program was scrapped for 2020 and the same is happening this year in the province of Alberta.

Executive director at the national Operation Red Nose office, Anne-Marie Audet said “we were really looking forward to bringing the safe ride service back this year. We have put a lot of thought into our decision, and it was a very hard one to make. We were hoping, up to the very last minute, to be able to announce that we would be back on the road this year.”

“The safety of our volunteers and clients is our priority, so the hard choice to push our safe ride campaign to 2022 is ultimately the most reasonable one given the current health situation.”

Because the service will not be offered in Alberta, Operation Red Nose organizers are encouraging all motorists to always plan a way to get home safe by calling a friend or family member, or a cab.

Alternatively, partygoers can designate a sober driver ahead of time.
