City of Lethbridge launches survey on pickleball court construction

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge is embracing the sport of pickleball.

The game is one of the fastest growing in North America and the city is now seeking residential feedback on how to support the need for additional courts in the community.

As part of Lethbridge’s current Capital Improvement Program (CIP), funding was allocated to construct six new pickleball courts in Legacy Park (project D-30), starting in 2022. As a way to save costs and to meet community need, there is the possibility to convert tennis courts into pickleball courts.

A survey has been launched asking residents about the conversion of tennis courts into pickleball courts. The city estimates that retrofitting tennis courts into pickleball courts would save between $150,000 to $200,000. The Recreation and Culture Master Plan identifies that the city has adequate tennis facilities and if more pickleball courts were required, the option of retrofitting tennis courts may fit that need.
